Fino Shadow Shawl KAL
What is a KAL?
KAL stads for Knit-A-Long, and is a fairly structured approach to members of a community knitting a project alongside one another. This can provide accountability, support, learning opportunities, and is a fun experience for all involved. Knitters of all levels and experiences can gain from a KAL, whether that be a sense of community, meeting new friends, sharing expertise or learning new skills.
How to join?
1) Purchase materials online or in person from Makers Lodge. Katherine and Christine are happy to help you choose your yarns!
2) Download your pattern (print if you like a hard copy)
3) For virtual participants, all chatter will happen in the Makers Lodge: Virtual Makespace group on Facebook, so please join the group if you haven’t already done so and watch for our posts with more information. For in-person participants, join us for the cast-on party on February 3rd, and any other drop ins throughout the KAL.
4) Knit!! Follow along for bi-weekly check-ins!
5) Earn entries for prizes in the following ways:
– virtual posts to public social media accounts by tagging Makers Lodge AND using the #makerslodgeKAL Each post is an entry to the draw for the main prize
– come to drops ins! Each drop in attended will earn you an entry for the main prize!
– Bi-weekly prizes will be drawn from all those who comment on the bi-weekly check in post in the Makers Lodge: Virtual Makespace Group, or for those who have attended a drop in THAT week.
6) Join us for the Fino Finale party!
This KAL will have both virtual and in-person elements, but you may choose which components to participate in.
Pattern
The pattern being used for the KAL is the Fino Shadow Shawl pattern by Manos del Uruguay patterns. You can find this free download on the Estelle Yarns website.

Yarn Options
The yarn requirements for this pattern are 200g of fingering weight yarn.
Here are our top recommendations:
Fino Mini Skeins Kit and a skein of Fino.
2 skeins from the following list:
– Malagrio: Mechita
– Manos del Uruguay: Fino
1 skein from the following list (these will produce a gradient shawl, not striped):
– Laines du Nord: Poema
– Laines du Nord: Poema Glitter
– Laines du Nord: Poema Tweed

Cast on Party
We will be hosting an in-person cast on party in the Makers Lodge Studio!
Saturday, February 3rd, 10am-1pm
This is a great time to:
– Choose yarns and needles (if you haven’t already)
– Wind up yarns
– Get help to cast on or just cast on socially
– Meet other participants
– Share your expertise, tips and tricks!
We will have a hot pot of coffee ready to get you energized for the KAL.
Please feel welcome to bring your favourite snack to enjoy while you knit!
For our Virtual members, Katherine will be hosting a live video, in the Makers Lodge: Virtual Makespace Group on Facebook.

We welcome those who can not make it in person to grab a hot drink, your materials, and burning Fino Shadow Shawl questions, and get cast on with Katherine!

Bi-Weekly Check-ins
In Person:
1) February 17th – CC1 (Contrast colour 1) complete We will chat about changing colours while knitting
2) March 2nd – CC2 complete.
3) March 16th – CC3 complete.
4) March 30th – CC4 complete.
A great time to come in for a coffee and social knitting time with other members of the community. A time point to check in with progress.

– Bi-Weekly check in posts will be made, and this is where weekly prizes will be drawn from the comments.
Fino Finale
Join us in studio for a small gathering to wrap up the KAL!

– Cast off your shawl
– get Soak and supplies for blocking
– Show off your completed shawl
– See others completed shawls
– Get photos with your shawl
– Meet other participants

Main Prize
We have put together a kick-ass prize basket for one very lucky KAL participant!!!
This basket is valued at over $220 and the draw will take place at the Fino Finale Party!
Attendance at the Finale is not required, and the prize winner will be contacted if not at the in-person event.

A draw will be made after each check in and the winner can choose:
– A set of Primrose and Purls stitch markers
– A Primrose and Purls Scrunchy
– A Makers Lodge one-time drop in fee
