THIS IS AN IN PERSON CLASS
Makers Lodge Studio – 428 Ramsay Concession 8, Carleton Place
This class will be 2 sessions of 2 hours each. Please note the 2 sessions are all booked under the first date.
Dates: May 30th, 2026 and June 6th 2026, 1:30-3:30pm
This class is made for folks who are true beginners and/or want to start at the very basics of sewing. This class will give students a low student to teacher ratio and allow for lots of guidance. Students will learn and practice basic techniques and learn how to use a sewing machine.
Topics that will be covered:
- basic use of sewing machine
- sewing machine safety
- choosing patterns and using a PDF pattern
- types of fabric (Knits vs Woven) and how to choose
- ironing
- cutting
- Different types of seams
Supplies Needed:
- Sewing machine in working order (if you do not have a sewing machine, please reach out as there is access to machines in the Makers Lodge Studio)
- Universal needle on your sewing machine
- thread
Supplies Included:
- Fabrics for practicing
- Scissors, rotary blades, cutting mats
- clips, pins, marking pens
- iron, ironing board
- seam ripper, thread snips, measuring tape
- power bars

There is coffee/tea/soda available on site. There is also a modern composting toilet washroom on the main level.
Courses are non refundable but are transferable to another sewist. Classes are subject to a class minimum and may be cancelled due to low registration and a refund will be issued in this case.
